Effective Strategies for Assessing Bullying, Violence, and Substance Abuse

Nearly 72 million Americans (57 million adults and 15 million children), representing approximately 23% of the population, are affected by mental illness or substance use disorders in any given year.  It is important to gain an understanding of the learning environment so that policies and programs can be targeted where they are most needed. To that end, assessing the occurrence of risky behaviors—in particular bullying, violence, and substance abuse—can help focus prevention efforts in the most effective way.  In this webinar, participants were able to learn strategies to design and conduct surveys to measure bullying, violence, and substance abuse. Links to appropriate resources and examples of such assessments are provided.
