NRC Learning Portal Offers Valuable Self-Paced Learning Opportunities

As a practitioner, educator, or professional working in mental health promotion, youth violence prevention, or early childhood well-being, you need all the information and tools you can get to address these challenging issues.

The Learning Portal at the National Resource Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention offers just that, based on your needs and schedule. You’ll find online, self-paced learning modules on a range of topics relating to mental health promotion, youth violence prevention, evidence-based practices, and collaboration among service providers.

Explore topics such as:

  • Selecting evidence-based programs for school settings
  • Planning and implementing a comprehensive school mental health program
  • Using strategic communication to support program objectives
  • Developing a logic model as a foundation for your work

Each interactive module leads you step-by-step through processes of planning, implementation, and/or evaluation. Interactive activities and quizzes help make the modules engaging while reinforcing what you’ve learned. Every module contains worksheets and other tools to help you put your new knowledge into action, along with links to additional resources so you can dig deeper into the subject matter.

The portal currently has eight modules, with several more in the works. Two modules on comprehensive school mental health programs are set for release in spring 2016, and additional modules on strategic communication will be available in early 2016. Although some modules were developed to help Safe Schools/Healthy Students and Project LAUNCH grantees achieve their mission, the majority are relevant for any professionals working in the field of public health and mental health promotion in settings like schools and communities.

The Learning Portal also provides access to webinars on topics including school mental health, bullying prevention, and more.

The Learning Portal is available 24/7, so you can access the modules and webinars whenever it’s convenient for you, and you can come back to them for a refresher anytime you need. You’re encouraged to share these resources with your team and stakeholders to help ensure everyone is working from the same knowledge base.
